Withheld royalties are royalties earned by a rights holder that are being held by you, the publisher.
When can royalties be withheld? #
Royalties HQ withholds royalties for a rights holder in two scenarios:
- A rights holder’s payment status (in their Details tab) is set to Paused. In this scenario, their royalties will be calculated as normal during a royalty run, however, a bill will not be generated. Instead, their accrued royalties will remain on their statement of account as a positive balance.
- A rights holder has not earned enough royalties to meet your minimum payout amount (configured on the Settings page).
Seeing details of withheld royalties #
In both scenarios, the rights holder’s withheld royalties are held on their balance, visible in their statement of account.
You can see at a glance whether any royalties are withheld for a rights holder by going to the rights holder’s details page. Next to the financial tab label, a badge will appear if the rights holder has any withheld royalties.
To see more details on the withheld royalties, go to the rights holder’s Financial tab and click on the View Statement of Account button. Learn more about statements of account.
Paying withheld royalties #
Withheld amounts will automatically be included in the next royalty run payout as long as all of these conditions are true:
- The rights holder has a title format of a royalty period length that matches the royalty run (for example, they have a quarterly title and you create a quarterly royalty run)
- AND the total payout for this rights holder exceeds your minimum payout amount (configured in Settings) AND
- AND the rights holder has a payment status of ‘OK to pay’ (in their Details tab).
