Publisher Rights Holder

Royalties HQ allows you to manage and track income for your publisher rights holder.

Royalties HQ automatically allocates the remaining percentage of royalties to your publisher rights holder (the rights holder that represents your publishing company) after distributing the designated royalty percentages to regular rights holders (e.g. authors).

Here’s how to set this up:

Designate a Publisher Rights Holder #

  1. Firstly, make sure you’ve created a rights holder to represent your publishing company. Click here for details on how to create a new rights holder.
  2. Go to the Settings page.
  3. Find the field labelled Publisher Rights Holder.
  4. Search for and select the rights holder that represents your publishing company. You can only select one rights holder as the publisher.
  5. Save.

How publisher rights holder royalties are calculated #

Once you’ve selected your publisher rights holder, it will be used in royalty runs.

During a Royalty Run, the allocation of royalty income (net receipts) to the publisher rights holder works as follows, depending on the royalty model of the contract rule that applies:

Royalty Models and Automatic Allocation of Publisher Income #

During a royalty run’s allocation step, for each sales line Royalties HQ checks each rights holders’ contract for the title format (ISBN). Each contract’s first matching contract rule is used to determine the rights hodler’s royalty.

For each sales line, after all rights holders have been allocated their royalties, any remainder net royalty on the sales line is allocated to the publisher rights holder (your company).

So, for each sales line, the formula is:

Sales line converted amount (Net royalty) – Sum of all royalties from this sales line paid to rights holders = Balance allocated to publisher rights holder

Tracking Publisher Income #

  • The publisher income for the royalty run is displayed in the royalty run details page in a card titled Publisher Income.
  • The royalty allocations to your publisher rights holder are listed in each royalty run’s ‘Royalty Lines’ tab, along with all other royalty lines. You can use the filters on the royalty lines list to see the amount of royalty you generated per sales line and per title format.
  • A PDF royalty statement is generated for the Publisher Rights Holder in each royalty run. The Publisher Rights Holder Statement is explained in more detail here.
